Six thematic areas

During the ESOF2024 conference, you will be able to register your contribution to the six areas:

Read about the areas on the ESOF2024 Thematic Areas section.

General information

ESOF2024 sessions should contribute to the general objective of the conference, which is to highlight and investigate the interplay between science and society, the conditions in which science is pursued, the processes of expected and unexpected discovery and application and the wider socio-cultural environment, including the contribution of education, innovation policy, investment, and funding mechanisms; as well as the dialogue on the scientific advances with the general public.

Session proposals should also promote public debate about the science-related societal change. ESOF2024 will be an opportunity to discuss the socio-cultural and economic implications and impact of the scientific breakthroughs from the regional, national, European and global perspectives. The international perspective is particularly significant since, in the face of global challenges and the internationalisation of trade and political governance, science is frequently considered as an international collaborative endeavour, a feature that the sessions should seek to consider whenever possible.

Please remember that ESOF is not a conventional scientific conference. The audience is expected to be diverse (Scientists, Policy makers, Students, General public, etc.), with strong interest in the presented topics but not necessarily knowledgeable in the specific scientific fields involved. It is therefore recommended to pay special attention to the communication style and the ability of the suggested session speakers to address the ESOF audience.

The session proposals should be targeted to a scientifically literate but non-specialist audience. Be prepared to be flexible and patient, and be sure to leave a sufficient amount of time for a wide range of questions and the space for debate. Please note that the session should be chaired by an experienced moderator nominated by the session organiser.

As EuroScience and ESOF2024 Katowice underline the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, ESOF aims to be as sustainable as possible. It is encouraged to minimise the impact on the environment and climate when composing the panel. Furthermore, in order to ensure the alignment with the global development priorities, we kindly request indicating which United Nations Sustainable Development Goals the presentation will addresse.

Organisers of the accepted sessions will be responsible for the organisation of their sessions and for the speakers. A full range of conference facilities will be available.

Abstract submission

Registration for an active participation in the event is carried out through the SystemCoffee platform. The topic submitter should create an account in SystemCoffee.

Registration link: https://systemcoffee.pl

During the account creation, besides the usual personal information, please prepare the following:

  • A document-style photo,
  • A short bio (400 characters including spaces) in which you present your scientific profile (this data can be used to promote your session),
  • 3 most important scientific publications.

Please memorise the login details you provided as they will be necessary to log in to your account and submit the abstract.

Account login link: https://systemcoffee.pl

During the abstract submission process, you will be asked to enter the background details of your session speakers as well as their photos and a short bios (400 characters with spaces). We kindly request to give your special attention to the diversity in the composition of the panels (the composition of session panels will be expected to maintain an appropriate balance in terms of geographical origin, gender and inclusivity).

The submitted abstracts will undergo a review process. On this basis, the conference programme will be determined.

Conference Fee

No registration fee will be charged to the organiser and speakers of an accepted ESOF2024 session. Participants’ involvement in the event must therefore be completely self-financed, including the travel costs, the cost of accommodation and any other organisational expenses.

Please note that the Selection Committee reserves the right to modify session titles, abstracts and session formats after your session has been accepted.
